Although he has his critics, Ali, in my mind displayed a level of kindness unlike no other human being. With clips from Ali, Howard Cosell, some fight clips, and my own interactions with “The Greatest,” this was one of the most emotional radio shows I’ve put forth in 26+ years of radio. Pavlik had his head handed to him, thus there was no room in invoke the “C” word which in boxing is “controversial.”

OUT LOUD KHAN QUESTIONS PETERSON’S “BALLS”

On Saturday, Amir Khan was that guy and he lost to Lamont Peterson, this after committing a couple of fouls and then doing an imitation of “The Roadrunner” of cartoon fame. That being said, the “special” Sunday edition of “Ring Talk” had interviews with sore losers Oscar De La Hoya and Amir Khan. Oscar was wearing his promotional hat here, not his drag queen lingerie, and you can hear him moaning about Khan losing and his having two points taken away from him. Khan, who has played the part of the prodigy, this even after his failure to win a medal in the Olympics and then being KO’d by Breidiss Prescott and refused to give him a rematch.

San Francisco, CA- One of the particulars involving being a talk show host/performer is being able to praise, and more often than not, criticize yourself. With over 26 years of radio and TV, and better than 4,000 hours of radio, sometimes it can get a little stale. But, certainly today was not one of them as I accused retired boxer Arturo Gatti’s wife Amanda Rodriques Gatti of murdering him in Brazil, as I went into the last night of Arturo’s life, and how the Police went from calling her a murderer to releasing him sans any charges!

Boxing and MMA scribe Matt Grizzle went into Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s upcoming shoulder surgery, talked about Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz getting it on in September, and Dave Meltzer, whom I feel is the best writer on anything he puts a pen to, talked about the big TV deal the UFC signed with the Fox network last week, in addition to a number of other things that included in his pinion, and that is predicated on viewer numbers, that MMA has surpassed boxing in popularity! San Francisco, CA- Although I am in the minority of boxing writers in many ways, the first being I won’t kiss anybody’s ass and write “fluff” pieces about powerful people and or their fighters. The second being, I am totally behind bare knuckle boxing! If the guys that who are so called “premier” writers in boxing, if they knew the difference between “a fish hook and a left hook,” and had they done their research, they’d tell you that the added padding of gloves adds to brain concussions, as determined by a five year study by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The results showed that a little over 20% of boxers wearing 8 or 10 ounce gloves suffered concussions, (which are “brain bleeds”) while MMA fighters who fight with four ounce gloves, their concussion rate is a little less than 2%.

“BARE KNUCKLE” BOXING IS A HIT & IT IS HERE TO STAY!

With that being fact, I can’t believe the vast number of websites and news agencies that refused to cover the “Bare Knuckle” fight in which New Jersey’s Bobby Gunn won a fortnight ago in Arizona. I’ve heard some writers, imitating promoters and commissioners like trained parrots saying “bare Knuckle” boxing is barbaric, etc. When the truth of the matter is that “gloves” were meant to protect the hands foremost, and not the fighter’s overall health and well being.

Do you think that Wladimir Klitschko could stand up to “bare knuckle” boxing? I can hear you all, except for the Klitschko fanatics, laughing out loud! In addition to Bobby Gunn, Jeff “The Other” Mayweather opened the show and Matt “All Meat” Grizzle covered the MMA scene. In closing, in time, “Bare Knuckle” boxing will prove to be more exciting than gloved boxing, and that is what has the boxing establishment scared to death. San Francisco, CA- Talk radio, the gist of real talk radio is to ask the tough questions and get the answers. While appearing on “Ring Talk” on Saturday, again “The Ghost” said, “If he has nothing to hide, then take the tests.” Wo, Manny Pacquaio fans are now looking for an international Hitman to go after Guerrero. Robert also talked up his August 27 fight on HBO with Marcos Maidana. Back to Pacquaio, Robert isn’t the only one who feels that way, plenty of fighters do, as do a number of sane and rational fans. If the man had nothing to hide, or if he isn’t deathly afraid of Floyd Mayweather, Manny would have taken the tests and by now might be a footnote in boxing history after striking out for 12 boxing innings against a far superior boxer.

PERRY ON BOXING AND “SLAMMIN’ SAMMY” ON MMA

Kevin “KP” Perry, our L.A. based feature writer, talked boxing in general and bantamweights a bit. “Slammin’ Sammy” Perez did his thing on MMA, bringing up a number of issues on the UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator Fighting Championships, their possible move to Spike TV.
